The Democratic National Convention was full of false narratives, hypocrisy — and the laughable notion that America has been the best it’s ever been.

From President Obama, former President Bill Clinton, down to his wife and now official Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, the DNC did its best to show itself as the “true” party of unity and America. They did this by taking a number of unprecedented steps, including inviting the mothers of the African-American men killed in police shootings, and a transgender speaker, along with a string of liberal celebrities invited to preach.

“It’s all just more smoke and mirrors from a convention about to nominate the least trusted presidential nominee in American history.”

But they also attempted to give off the impression that Republicans are rallying to her side.

Doug Elmets formerly worked for President Ronald Reagan and Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley. He appeared at the convention Thursday night to paint a picture of the GOP as a shell of the party that was once led by the Gipper.

“It’s an honor to be here. It’s also a shock … because unlike many of you, I’m a Republican,” he stated. “I’m here tonight to say, I knew Ronald Reagan. I worked for Ronald Reagan. Donald Trump, you are no Ronald Reagan.”

The quote was a call-out to Sen. Lloyd Bentsen, who quipped in 1988 that Dan Quayle was “no Jack Kennedy.” Needless to say, we all remember how that election turned out.

The former Reagan speechwriter and spokesman also said: “To my fellow Republicans, if you believe, like I do … loyalty to our country is more important than loyalty to party, if you want a president with good judgment, a steady hand, and the temperament to represent our nation to the world – and our children – I ask you to join me in voting for Hillary Clinton as president of the United States.”

Elmets was used by the Democrats as a prop to show their bipartisanship. The former Reagan staffer was harsh in his condemnation of Trump, calling him “a petulant, dangerously unbalanced reality star.”

However, when one takes a closer look at Elmets, his claims of being a Republican don’t stand up. Over the past 12 years, he has given numerous donations to California Democrats in their bids for office. Since 2004, he’s donated at least six times to Democrats. He recently gave $1,000 to a Democratic Californian.

“It’s all just more smoke and mirrors from a convention about to nominate the least trusted presidential nominee in American history,” said Michael C. Short of the Republican National Committee.
