Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) said Wednesday on “The Laura Ingraham Show” that Tuesday’s bombshell report revealing that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign paid for the discredited dossier on President Donald Trump and Russia “is just the tip of the iceberg.”

Nunes, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, addressed The Washington Post’s report that Democrats paid for the research that went into crafting the report by retaining the research firm Fusion GPS. Noting that this piece of news is “a major scandal” for Clinton and her party, Nunes said “the only reason” this information came out was that the House Intelligence Committee subpoenaed documents from Fusion GPS.

“What else is Fusion GPS hiding? I imagine quite a bit,” Nunes said. “So my guess is there’s a lot more here once we get to the bottom of it.”

“The press did everything they could to bury this. As you know, I’ve been relentlessly attacked for months. And now finally we’re just beginning to get the truth,” he added. “This is just the tip of the iceberg, in my opinion.”

Another important question the committee is still trying to answer is whether or not the FBI and the Department of Justice “used this dossier,” paid for by the Clinton campaign and the DNC, to “open counterintelligence investigations into the opposing party” during a presidential election.

“That kind of stuff only happens in third-world countries,” Nunes said. “And we’ve been asking DOJ and FBI whether or not they used this dossier for months, actually I believe since March 6. So this is going to bring back — this should send chills down everybody’s spine — if in fact this dossier, which is paid opposition research, was picked up by the FBI and used for any type of investigation.”

Saying that all Americans “should be up in arms” about these revelations, and also about why the FBI and the Department of Justice haven’t yet supplied the documents the House subpoenaed from them.

“Give up the documents. Tell us whether or not you used this dossier for any investigation. Did you or did you not?” Nunes said. “And I’ll tell you what — if they did, then we’ve got a big problem in this country. We’ve got a big problem with the FBI, for sure.”

A major issue of concern for the House Intelligence Committee is the new report that the FBI already had an open racketeering investigation into the Russian firm Tenex when it was allowed in 2010 to purchase the Canadian company Uranium One, giving the Russian government control of 20 percent of the United States’ uranium supply, Nunes said.

“Now we find out that there was actually an open FBI investigation into this Russian firm and other firms surrounding the sale of this deal,” Nunes said. “So how can the U.S. government … sign off on a sale of a major national security asset — uranium that’s used to build nuclear weapons and for nuclear power — how could they have signed off on this deal if there was an open FBI investigation into many of the aspects surrounding this? And so that’s the new news, and that’s why we opened the investigation.”
