David Clarke: NC Firebombing Was ‘White Voter Disenfranchisement’

Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke said Monday on “The Laura Ingraham Show” that the firebombing of a GOP field office in North Carolina over the weekend represents the stunning hypocrisy of Democrats and amounts to “white voter disenfranchisement.”

The Orange County Republican Office headquarters was firebombed overnight Saturday to Sunday when a bottle filled with flammable materials smashed through the office’s front window and burst into flames. The resulting fire eventually fizzled out on its own, but not before it left significant damage to the building’s interior and furniture. No one was injured during the fire.

“What I’m hoping is that Americans all across this country who have had it with this corrupt government … use this as motivation.”

The vandals spray-painted the exterior wall of a building next door with a swastika and the words, “Nazi Republicans leave town or else.”

“I don’t think that [Hillary Clinton’s] campaign is involved in this sort of thing, but you know what, they benefit from it,” Clarke told LifeZette Editor-in-Chief Laura Ingraham. “This is white voter disenfranchisement, and if Loretta Lynch is doing anything this morning she’s yawning over this, as is Barack Obama.”

Pointing out the hypocrisy of the Democrats’ rhetoric on voter suppression, Clarke asked Ingraham to imagine what would have happened if the local NAACP in North Carolina had received similar vandalism, but with someone spray-painting the letters “KKK” on the building and hanging up a noose, telling black voters to “get out of town.”

“Can you imagine the outrage? Barack Obama would already be speaking from the East Lawn or the Rose Garden, I should say. Loretta Lynch would be having a major news conference this morning that all of the liberal mainstream news agencies would be covering,” Clarke said. “And this, of course, would be blamed on Donald Trump. They would blame his rhetoric.”

Sure enough, CNN’s Brian Stelter insinuated on the network today that Trump’s own rhetoric may have spurred the vandals to take such a drastic course of action.

“We have no idea who has done this. We don’t know if it’s a Republican, a Democrat, a movement. No idea. Could be some core of extremists, some sort of radical,” Stelter said. “And we need to have the temperature come down on all sides right now … Unfortunately, Donald Trump is the lead in terms of raising the temperature at this moment in time.”

Trump himself lambasted the miscreants who firebombed the Republican Party office in North Carolina over the weekend, calling them “animals” that represent “Hillary Clinton and Dems” in a Sunday tweet.

Trump ultimately later added, “ALL SAFE IN ORANGE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA. With you all the way, will never forget. Now we have to win. Proud of you all!”

The Democratic nominee also condemned the firebombing incident in her own tweets, calling it “horrific and unacceptable.”

Hillsborough Mayor Tom Stevens issued a statement saying that, “This highly disturbing act goes far beyond vandalizing property.”

“It willfully threatens our [community’s] safety via fire, and its hateful message undermines decency, respect, and integrity in civic participation,” Stevens continued. “I believe I speak for the overwhelming majority of people who make Hillsborough their home: Acts like this have no place in our community.”

The office firebombing wasn’t the only act of vandalism to strike Trump backers over the weekend. Following a Trump rally Saturday in Bangor, Maine, at least 17 attendees returned to their vehicles to find them covered in white spray paint.

Clarke hopes that Trump and the Republican Party can use these acts of vandalism to energize people to push back in the voting booth.

“But what I’m hoping is that Americans all across this country who have had it with this corrupt government, who have had it with this leftist-socialist agenda, use this as motivation and that the supporters of Donald Trump and his campaign use it to motivate their base, to enrage their base, because that’s what you want at election time,” Clarke said. “What you want going into the last couple of weeks is you want your base to be energized, highly motivated, almost enraged, and just can’t wait to get to the polls.”

“And I believe that Donald Trump, if he uses this with his campaign to energize the base, he can get out people who may not have participated in this election coming up,” Clarke added. “Maybe they tuned out of this thing, but they feel they want their country back. They’re done with the corruption. They’re done with the crap going on, the racial discord in this country, and they come out and vote for Donald Trump.”
