CNN’s “State of the Union” host Jake Tapper edited clips from his show Sunday that exposed the hypocrisy of Hillary Clinton’s critique of Donald Trump for comments on the Saturday terrorist bombing in New York. The Clinton camp hit Trump for referring to the explosion as a bombing before the FBI had confirmed a bomb was indeed the culprit — even though Clinton herself had also already referred to the explosion as a bombing.

Tapper asked New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie — a surrogate for Trump — whether he thought Trump’s response to the Chelsea explosion was appropriate. The Republican presidential nominee had told a crowd gathered in Colorado Springs that “a bomb went off in New York, and nobody knows exactly what’s going on.”

“[Clinton] has absolutely no basis to be critical of what [Trump] did yesterday … it’s because of her type of leadership over the last eight years, along with the president, that the world is a much more dangerous place.”

“[Trump’s] being criticized for talking about the New York bomb before local officials or local law enforcement had a chance to do so,” Tapper said to Christie. “And his opponent tried to draw a contrast. She waited hours later, until local officials spoke, and then she said this.”

Tapper proceeded to play a clip of Clinton speaking to reporters, in which she said, “I think it’s important to know the facts about any incident like this. I think it’s always wiser to wait until you have information before making conclusions.”

CNN edited out the fact that Clinton did, in fact, mention the “bombings in New York and New Jersey” and the “attack in Minnesota” just a few sentences before the clip Tapper played began.

“I’ve been briefed about the bombings in New York and New Jersey, and the attack in Minnesota,” Clinton said. “Obviously, we need to do everything we can to support our first responders, also to pray for the victims. We have to let this investigation unfold. We’ve been in touch with various officials, including the mayor’s office in New York, to learn what they are discovering as they conduct this investigation. And I’ll have more to say about it when we actually know the facts.”

Only after a reporter asked her about Trump’s response to the explosions did Clinton say this: “Well, I think it’s important to know the facts about any incident like this. That’s why it’s critical to support the first responders, the investigators who are looking into it, trying to determine what did happen. I think it’s always wiser to wait until you have information before making conclusions because we are just in the beginning stages of trying to determine what happened.”

Tapper conveniently omitted the clip, instead electing to play along with a blatantly hypocritical line of attack from the Clinton camp. Tapper asked the New Jersey governor if he thought “politicians should wait until more information comes in” and “defer to local official and investigators” until more information becomes available.

Christie took the bias from CNN in stride.

“Well, listen, I don’t think you have to defer when saying that there was an explosion and a bomb in New York. I mean, everybody knew that. It was being reported on television, Jake, so there’s a difference,” Christie said. “But I think that what Donald did was perfectly appropriate to tell that group in Colorado Springs that a bomb had exploded. This is typical Mrs. Clinton. She has absolutely no basis to be critical of what he did yesterday. But since her campaign is only based upon that, that’s the only, you know, issue she could go to. And it’s a shame. But it’s because of her type of leadership over the last eight years, along with the president, that the world is a much more dangerous place.”

When Tapper played the Clinton clip during a later interview with her running mate, Virginia Sen. Time Kaine, Tapper played the clip in its entirety and did not ask Kaine whether Clinton’s response was appropriate.
