Pressed by CNN’s Jake Tapper to explain where Hillary Clinton stands on the dangerous spread of sanctuary cities in the United States, her campaign manager Sunday could only offer evasions.

Donald Trump has pledged to put an end to sanctuary cities, those which refuse to detain or report the illegal status of aliens stopped or arrested by local law enforcement, as part of his wider commitment to enforce existing immigration laws.

“Alright, I look forward to further clarity on the sanctuary cities issue specifically,” Tapper said.

Tapper asked Clinton’s campaign manager, Robby Mook on CNN’s “State of the Union,” “Does Hillary Clinton consider sanctuary cities to be a problem?” Mook struggled to answer the question and evaded a direct response.

“Well, first of all Jake, as you mentioned, we do think this is a really important difference between both of the candidates. And Secretary Clinton has released a comprehensive plan for immigration reform,” Mook said. “This is something she’s pledged to do in the first 100 days. We cannot have a situation where anybody is coming to this country illegally and committing crimes.”

Tapper pressed Mook to clarify where Clinton stood on sanctuary cities.

“I’m not clear, though, does she want to end sanctuary cities or not?” Tapper asked. “You said that people shouldn’t be coming into this country illegally, but a Clinton campaign spokeswoman last year said, quote, ‘Hillary Clinton believes that sanctuary cities can help further public safety, and she has defended those policies going back years.’ Does she support sanctuary cities or not?”

Mook kept trying to escape the question.

“Well, I think that’s too narrow a view of the situation,” Mook waffled. “We need comprehensive immigration reform, and part of comprehensive immigration reform is making sure that law enforcement has the tools to find these violent criminals and get them out of the country. And for people that do not have legal status right now, that we put them on that path to citizenship.”

Tapper then ended the interview with a quip jabbing Mook for his inability to answer a simple policy question.

“Alright, I look forward to further clarity on the sanctuary cities issue specifically,” Tapper said.

Trump surrogate and chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest Sen. Jeff Sessions has been sounding the alarm on the danger sanctuary cities pose to innocent citizens.

“It is a simple fact that aliens lawfully here, and of course those unlawfully here, must be deported promptly upon their conviction for criminal offenses,” Sessions said in a July 30 statement, “Failure to do so places whole communities at risk, especially immigrant communities in those sanctuary jurisdictions.”
