Declaring himself “appalled” by Hillary Clinton’s rush to judgment in cases involving police shootings, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Wednesday that police deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Calling into “The Steve Harvey Show” Tuesday, the Democratic nominee for president said an earlier police shooting in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was “unbearable” and “needs to be intolerable.” Her solution? “Speaking directly to white people” about “implicit bias,” she told Harvey.

“She has no experience in law enforcement except being interviewed by them.”

Christie, a former federal prosecutor, spoke on “The Laura Ingraham Show” Wednesday about the importance of withholding judgment until all of the facts are known.

“But it sounds to me like Mrs. Clinton is not going to wait for that, because she’s pretty desperate right now,” he said. “She’s a disgrace, and those comments are a disgrace. It’s typical of Hillary Clinton. She knows nothing, but the mouth never stops.”

On Tuesday, a Charlotte police officer shot 43-year-old Keith Lamont Scott to death after a confrontation at an apartment complex, sparking riots overnight that resulted in the injury of 16 officers. Officers had gone to the complex to serve a warrant on someone else when they encountered Scott with a gun.

Police Chief Kerr Putney told reporters during a news conference Wednesday that Scott ignored orders to drop the weapon.

Christie said Clinton is the type of politician that most law enforcement officers loathe. He alluded to her own brush with the law, an FBI investigation into her handling of classified information that resulted in no criminal charges.

“She has no experience in law enforcement except being interviewed by them,” he said.

Christie said police have a hard job that is made harder when politicians undercut them.

“Everybody’s got to take a deep breath and wait for all the facts to come in,” he said. “But here’s my problem with what’s going on in America right now. The police deserve the benefit of the doubt. They’re the men and women who are putting their lives on the line every day.”

Christie’s appearance on the program comes as Republican Donald Trump has fought his way to near-parity in the polls. The New Jersey governor ripped what he regards as a media-spawned false equivalency between the Clinton Foundation and Trump’s own family charity. The Trump charity has come under scrutiny in recent days for using funds to settle lawsuits against his businesses.

“Donald Trump never took a nickel from that foundation. Never,” Christie said. “All the money went to charitable causes … That is not what happened at the Clinton Foundation. These folks were enriching themselves out of that foundation.”

Christie said it also is important to keep in mind the motivations of the donors to the respective charities. Contributors to the Donald J. Trump Foundation received nothing but a “thank you,” he said. He said Clinton Foundation donors, on the other hand, got meetings with Clinton — then the secretary of state — or other favors.

“Be careful what door you open, Mrs. Clinton, because you’re not gonna want people to be talking about the Clinton Foundation and comparing it to anything that Donald Trump has done in his life, including giving away tens of millions of dollars of his own personal money,” Christie said.
