Black Lives Matter Ruining Race Relations

Americans’ concern about race relations is at an all-time high, a new Gallup poll finds, spelling potential trouble for the future of the Democratic Party.

The likely legacy of Obama’s racially charged presidency and widespread tolerance offered to groups like Black Lives Matter, over a third of respondents said they are worried “a great deal” about race relations in the U.S. — higher than at any time since Gallup first asked the question 15 years ago. This represents a 7-point increase from last year, and an increase of over 100 percent since 2014.

Even more noteworthy is the widening gap between liberals and conservatives regarding their concern about race relations in America. Over 40 percent of self-identified liberals are worried “a great deal” about U.S. race relations, compared to only 28 percent of conservatives and 27 percent of moderates.

Worry over race relations has increased among all political and ideological groups in America, but while Republican and conservative concern over race relations increased by only 12 points from 2012-2014 to 2015-2016, concern among Democrats and liberals increased by 15 points and 18 points, respectively, in that time.

The results of the new poll reveal the extent to which the unimpeded proliferation of identity politics and radical social justice movements on college campuses and elsewhere — not to mention the Obama administration’s racial demagoguery — have poisoned race relations in the U.S. As Gallup notes, “the rising concern about race relations as the nation’s first black president completes his last year in office is a retreat from the optimism that swept the country in the immediate aftermath of President Barack Obama’s first election win in 2008.” And that optimism retreated in the face of a full frontal assault of identity politics.

Indeed, two conclusions may be drawn from the recent surge in liberals’ concern about the state of American race relations. The results of the new Gallup poll could suggest the extent to which myths about widespread anti-black racism propagated by the likes of Black Lives Matter, and unfortunately the Obama Justice Department, have permeated the minds of otherwise reasonable, white liberals.

That this is happening cannot be denied. There is overwhelming evidence that the blatant propaganda of the racial grievance industry has permeated even America’s best and brightest youth. “The view from my airplane window is about race,” reads an April 6 editorial in the Harvard Crimson that one could be forgiven for thinking was an April fools piece that ran five days late. “Colonizers killed Indigenous people for those tidy plots of farmland,” the author insists.

On the other hand, the results might also illustrate the extent to which liberals immune to the America-is-racist hysteria are feeling increasingly disillusioned with the Democratic Party’s entertaining the Black Lives Matter movement and the damage this has done — and will continue to do — to American race relations and the Democratic party itself.

The beginnings of such a fracture were glaringly evident last week when Bill Clinton had to defend Hillary Clinton’s use of the term “super-predator” in the 1990s against Black Lives Matters protestors horrified at the idea that two decades ago Hillary acknowledged the fact that some black people are criminals.

“I don’t know how you would characterize the gang leaders who got 13-year-old kids hopped up on crack and sent them out onto the street to murder other African-American children. Maybe you thought they were good citizens,” Clinton admonished the protestors. “You are defending the people who killed the lives you say matter,” he railed. “Tell the truth.”

That exchange could very well be looked upon by future historians as the day the Democratic died. Political pundits have created a veritable mini-industry in commenting about the supposed death of the GOP, the inevitable result of the populist/nationalist revolt spearheaded by Donald Trump’s candidacy. But the rise of Black Lives Matter and the proliferation of patently false myths about American racism pose just as serious a problem for the Democrats.

Like Frankenstein’s monster, the Democrats encouragement of racial-identity politics among ethnic minorities has taken on a life of its own and threatens to destroy its creator. Despite its current, slow transformation into the anti-white male party, the Democratic Party is still funded largely by wealthy white males, like Bill Clinton.

Once those donors feel alienated and unwelcome enough in the Democratic party they will jump ship, and the party will sink into electoral and historical oblivion. The GOP can survive a civil war between sovereigntists and globalists. The Democratic party cannot survive a civil war between two camps whose very concepts of reality are inherently at odds.
