Bernie Loving the 1% Life

If you can’t beat the one percent, join them!

This isn’t the first time there’s been a blatant hypocrisy in the contrast between Sanders’ message and his actions.

Bernie Sanders has crossed the country delivering fiery speeches on income inequality as he positions himself as “a man of the people” who can’t be bought by billionaires. But the 74-year-old socialist doesn’t seem to mind buddying up to a few of them, especially if he can get a couple of favors for free. 

On Monday night, Sanders attended the highly anticipated Game 7 of the NBA Western Conference finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder while on a campaign swing in California. Sanders had a great view of the court as he sat in the 15th row next to his pal and actor Danny Glover, whose net worth sits around $15 million.

ESPN reported Monday that the average cost of a ticket to the final game was a whopping $960, with the cheapest tickets starting at $350 a piece. But seats in section 108, row 15 — where Sanders and Glover sat — averaged about $1,600. Not your average seat for a socialist (they tend not to have that kind of coin).

This isn’t the first time there’s been a blatant hypocrisy in the contrast between Sanders’ message and his actions. When Sanders took a quick jaunt to Rome to speak at the Vatican, he chartered a private jet for him and his entourage. If that wasn’t enough, the in-flight menu on the return trip was dripping with 1 percent goodies and delicacies. The menu included herb-crusted lamb loin, lobster sliders, selection of five cheeses offered with fresh fruit and onion jam, coriander crab salad, and to top it off, a full selection of liquor along with warm chocolate chip cookie service throughout the nine-hour flight.

The irony of it all was that Sanders was invited to speak on the topic of poverty and income inequality.

As a result, Sanders’ foray into first class was met with some backlash from his supporters, who saw his use of a private, chartered aircraft as a luxury of the privileged class. Some supporters were also curious as to how much Sanders paid for his seat at the Warriors game, or if it was a gift from his wealthy pal Glover.

While Sanders has attacked Hillary Clinton for using her connections with wealthy donors to her personal benefit, Sanders is now enjoying the high life. But that’s par for the course, because Democrats all live by the same credo — Do as I say, not as I do.
