Conservative commentator and author Ann Coulter lashed out at the Young America’s Foundation (YAF) on Wednesday night for its decision to pull out of sponsoring Coulter’s unsanctioned appearance at University of California, Berkeley, which was scheduled for Thursday.

The conservative author said YAF’s last-minute decision to back down — after having made a show of ‘standing up’ for her right to free speech — is emblematic of a larger problem within the Republican Party and conservative movement.

“You have Donald Trump, he gives away DACA and then he doesn’t get the wall … Well that’ll show them how good he is, what a good humanitarian.”

“We have YAF saying, ‘Well we’re going to strike a blow for the next speaker at Berkeley,'” she said. “No! I want to win now! Can the Republicans ever win now?” she asked. “The GOP should change their motto to ‘Next time we’ll fight, this next time, we’ll show them how good we are.'”

Coulter was referring to a phenomenon in which Republicans will campaign on conservative principles and promises and then, once elected, acquiesce to liberal demands, leftists’ protests, and the grinding coverage of a biased media.

Coulter said Republicans are all too often willing to give in to liberal demands in order to be “liked,” noting that Ruth Bader Ginsburg was confirmed to the Supreme Court in a near-unanimous vote, while Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch barely made it through the confirmation process.

“You have Donald Trump, he gives away DACA and then he doesn’t get the wall,” Coulter said in another example. “Well that’ll show them how good he is, what a good humanitarian, by saying what a big heart he has for those DREAMers — the illegal aliens he promised to deport,” she said sarcastically. “‘Next time we’ll get them!'”

YAF adamantly denies Coulter’s characterization of its decision.

“What Ann Coulter is saying is unfortunate. Most pertaining to YAF is not true. Young America’s Foundation never canceled an event because there was no event to cancel. Berkeley never gave us a room or a hall,” the organization claimed in an official statement published on Thursday.

“On her own and without student involvement, Ann started telling people she would appear at an off-campus event,” the statement asserted. “We told her she should feel free to do so, and we would still pay her for her time, but we were unwilling to put students’ physical safety at risk by sponsoring an open-air event where violence was expected,” it continued.

“We hired and flew in three security-detail personnel to Berkeley earlier this week. They confirmed other intelligence we received, that there was a heavy domestic terrorist presence and violence should be expected.”
