Hillary Clinton and her campaign have done everything in their power to avoid transparency regarding her health — all because Clinton thought it wouldn’t be “that big of a deal.”

When video footage surfaced on Sunday of Clinton stumbling into her getaway van after leaving a 9/11 commemoration service early, her presidential campaign eventually chalked it up to her feeling “overheated.” But after social media exploded with video footage of a full-blown collapse, her campaign eventually offered another story: Clinton was diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday.

“Well, I just didn’t think it was going to be that big a deal,” Clinton said. “It’s just the kind of thing that if it happens to you and you’re a busy, active person, you keep moving forward.”

But in subsequent interviews, Hillary and Bill Clinton let slip insights that point to something far more serious than a pneumonia diagnosis. Here are four telling statements that suggest Clinton and her campaign are still lying to the American people:

1.) Clinton admits she has collapsed before, yet claims to remember only two incidents.
“I think really only twice that I can recall,” Clinton replied to questioning by CNN’s Anderson Cooper. “You know, it is something that has occurred a few times over the course of my life, and I’m aware of it, and usually can avoid it.”

If Clinton’s only pressing health issues are allergies and pneumonia, then why would she have a history of fainting? If the fainting incidents are rare, wouldn’t she remember them all?

It seems likely most people who fainted only a handful of times in their life would remember those moments. Either Clinton suffers from amnesia, or the fainting incidents are commonplace occurrences she is trying to downplay.

By only recalling two fainting episodes, Clinton could be employing the same evasive strategy she used during the FBI’s investigation into her use of a private email server. During that investigation, Clinton told the FBI on 39 distinct occasions that she did not “recall” or otherwise “remember” key details of questions pertaining to State Department processes, training and specific email content. Saying she doesn’t remember prevents Clinton from being caught in a lie — if there have been dozens of fainting episodes, for example.

2.) Bill Clinton admitted Hillary has suffered similar health scares before, but also played coy on the frequency.
In an interview with Charlie Rose on PBS Monday evening, the former president used the same evasive language deployed by Hillary on CNN to downplay the number of physical collapses but leave the door open to a potentially limitless number.

“Rarely, but on more than one occasion, over the last many, many years, the same sort of thing’s happened to her when she got severely dehydrated,” Bill Clinton said. “And she’s worked like a demon, as you know, as secretary of state, and as a senator, and in the years since.”

If the Clintons have been aware of these “sort of thing[s]” occurring for years, why has her campaign insisted there is no underlying health condition and slammed health scare concerns as conspiracy theories?

3.) Clinton blamed the entire health scare on “allergies.”
During her interview with Cooper, Clinton said she initially thought her ill health arose from seasonal allergies, which she claimed were behind her well-documented bouts of severe coughing fits last fall and this spring.

“What happened this time, though, was it didn’t dissipate, and that’s why when I got off the road on Friday, I did go to see my doctor, and that’s when I was diagnosed with pneumonia,” Clinton told Cooper.

But despite months of speculation as to the root cause of Clinton’s mysterious coughing fits and questions about her physical health, the Clinton camp did not reveal allergies as the culprit until Sunday. If, all along, her health concerns could be boiled down to allergies, why did her campaign wait until now to share that with the public?

The questions keep going.

If allergies are the culprit, why hasn’t she released detailed medical records to calm everyone down? When was Clinton first diagnosed with severe allergies?

But Anderson Cooper did not get to those.

4.) Clinton was not transparent about her health because she didn’t think it would be a “big deal.”
There is an old adage in journalism that if a politician tells you something is not a “big deal,” that’s when you need to start digging.

When Cooper asked her why she didn’t admit that she had pneumonia before her near-collapse on 9/11, Clinton offered a cagey response.

“Well, I just didn’t think it was going to be that big a deal,” she said. “It’s just the kind of thing that if it happens to you and you’re a busy, active person, you keep moving forward.”

Clinton has consistently refused to offer any transparency on her health, only changing her story and offering new explanations when there is no alternative. Her militant commitment to obfuscating her full medical history is exactly the reason her health is likely a “big deal.”
