Liberal students unwilling to hear any viewpoint other than their own turned destructive this week — leaving a guest speaker unable to speak freely, or at all, at the University of California, Berkeley.

Parents of UC Berkeley students: Are riots what you’re paying for?

Campus officials say early estimates of the damage done by students stands at about $100,000, as reported by Berkeleyside.com. “[This] includes fixing broken windows at the MLK Student Union, replacing a generator that caught fire and was destroyed, sand-blasting paint off the concrete steps of the student union, cleaning up graffiti and possibly replacing some pavers and trees on Sproul Plaza. One tree on the plaza was badly singed.”

Scehduled speaker Milo Yiannopoulos is a journalist and editor at Breitbart News. He is known for poking fun at the ridiculousness of political correctness and speaks often to groups. This man’s political point of view was the sole reason for the mayhem.

“This was a group of agitators who were masked up, throwing rocks, commercial grade fireworks and Molotov cocktails at officers,” UC Berkeley Police Chief Margo Bennet told The Associated Press. The Berkeley College Republicans said its “constitutional right to free speech was silenced by criminals and thugs,” according to ABC News.

Are today’s college students so thin-skinned, pampered and brainwashed that they can’t take an opposing view, can’t dissect and ruminate upon an opinion counter to their own? They are in for a rude awakening when they graduate and enter “the school of hard knocks.” This thing called real life isn’t always easy.

Student and Trump supporter Kiara Roles was wearing a red “Make Bitcoin Great Again” baseball hat and trying to attend the lecture when a coward sprayed her in the face at close range with pepper spray. She took it well, and even gave kudos to peaceful protestors, Breitbart.com reported.

So now a red baseball hat can get you assaulted?

At UC Berkeley — it can. This college should be ashamed at the display put on by its own students. As President Donald Trump might say, “This is a large fail.”

Or is it? This may be exactly what the college is fostering: new liberal minds, new Democrats, new party-line voters.

The bigger issue is that these young adults think putting hands on anyone is OK. Aren’t proper manners and behavior taught in preschool, or at home with one’s brothers and sisters? “Keep your hands to yourself,” parents once instructed their kids.

The parents of these Berkeley students should be mortified at the display of intolerance and criminal destruction from their offspring. I hope they are calling out their kids.

Further, parents should also be disgusted with the way the campus handled the situation. At $23,000 to $33,000 per year in tuition, you would think they’d get a little more for their money — starting with safety for all students, regardless of their political persuasion.

Yiannopoulos, in an interview with Tucker Carlson of Fox News, said the police were inside the building with him, hiding. Is this how we protect freedom of speech?

These colleges, Democrats, and left-leaning liberals all preach tolerance — but in their deeds they display intolerance. Why weren’t there multiple arrests made? At this time, there has been only one arrest.

Are these campuses merely allowing these dangerous protests — or through their turning of a mostly blind eye are they somehow promoting them?
