Sometimes you gotta pay to play — and one Florida teen learned this the hard way when his dad listed his 1998 Ford Explorer for sale online as punishment for smoking pot and “acting thug.”

The ad says, “He thinks it’s cool to drive around smokin’ dope and acting all thug … especially not showing me and my wife the respect we deserve.”

Allan Gieger Jr. posted an ad for the vehicle on Craigslist after finding out that his 16-year-old was using it “to drive around and smoke dope with his friends,” the father wrote in his advertisement.

The ad continued, “He thinks it’s cool to drive around smokin’ dope and acting all thug … especially not showing me and my wife the respect that we deserve.”

Geiger even offered to take $250 off the $1,500 price if the buyer lived in his area, just so his son would see the vehicle every now and then and be sorely reminded of “how good he had it.”

The tough-love, action-oriented dad has struck a nerve with many parents across the nation.

Gieger said he has received lots of calls and messages, and most are supportive of his actions, he told CNN. He said many thanked him for “standing up for other parents.” He told local station WJXT he had messages from “Texas, Tennessee, just all over the place, telling me, ‘I’m not interested in your truck. I just want to tell you you’ve got Texas support and everyone supporting you with your decisions.'”

Social media has lit up with discussion over the disciplinarian dad’s actions.

Tasha Ashley posted on Facebook, “These comments are teaching me that too many gosh darn parents are afraid of hurting there [sic] kids feelings. that’s why we have so many gosh darn criminals. here’s an idea punish your children so the system and our taxes won’t have to.”

Elaine Brogoitti wrote on Facebook, “Part of a parent’s job is to teach kids responsibility, actions/consequences and respect for ‘the rules.’ Good for you, Dad. Too many parents won’t do their job. And leave society with their disrespectful, uncaring, entitled-feeling brats to deal with. You have my vote for being a good parent.”

Gieger showed WJXT inside the SUV while on camera, noting — as he peered around the interior — “Got that last little bit of roach that I guess him and his buddies were smoking. Whoever gets this thing has definitely got to clean it out.”

Gieger said he made the move with only his son’s best interests at heart, CNN reported.

“I’ve been having some issues with my son over the past year,” he told the station. “I don’t want to see him struggle the way I did.”

While the son didn’t want to talk to reporters, they were told the young man is remorseful and focused on getting his diploma, WJXT reported. His father told the station if his son gets a job and saves up $1,000, he’ll match that and they’ll go and buy another car together.
