“We believe it was a disgruntled employee who fired at the TV crew, not a case of terrorism,” said Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe hours after the shooting.

Reports were not immediately clear on why the shooter may have targeted the two victims, reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27.

Vicki Gardner, the chair of the local Chamber of Commerce, was being interviewed by Parker when the attack occurred. Gardner suffered a gunshot wound in the back of the head. Reports indicated Gardner has been moved to a local hospital for surgery.

The suspected shooter, Vester Flanagain, shot himself later Wednesday morning as authorities searched for him.

Several reports indicated Ward was engaged to WDBJ producer Melissa Ott, and Ott may have witnessed the shooting from the station’s control room.

WDBJ7 has sent out a tweet saying, ”We love you, Alison and Adam.”
