Does your pooch like to gnaw on rawhide bones or other dog treats that are marketed as being “good for their teeth” or “good for canine digestion” or other such touts?

You may want to check the products in your household or on your usual grocery list.

“The company behind rawhide dog chew products has issued a recall for multiple brands of its products over concerns of potential chemical contamination,” Fox News reported.

United Pet Group said it had received reports of pet illnesses involving diarrhea and vomiting, said Fox 13, a local affiliate.

The Illinois-based company, which makes use of manufacturing facilities in Mexico, Columbia and Brazil, “said it has identified the source of contamination but is issuing a nationwide recall for products including American Beefhide, Digest-eeze, Healthy Hide, Petco or “Good Lovin” Hill Country Fare, Priority Pet, Exer-Hides, Essential Everyday, Enzadent or Dentalhex, Dentley’s and Companion,” according to Fox.

That’s quite a list — so check carefully to see whether these products are in your pantry or on your shelves.

The company, in a media release, announced that the facilities were “using a quaternary ammonium compound mixture as a processing aid, which is not approved in the U.S. Exposure to the compound could cause pets to experience reduced appetite and gastric irritation,” as Fox 13 reported.
