President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump hosted Easter festivities at the White House on Monday, April 17, in Washington, D.C.

The 139th annual Easter Egg Roll took place on the South Lawn. Both President Trump and Melania Trump appeared and spoke from the White House balcony in the morning.

“This is the first time that my husband and I [are] hosting this wonderful tradition,” Melania said. “And it’s great that you are all with us today.”

Standing beside her husband and their 11-year-old son, Barron, she also said, “I want to thank the military in this great nation and the servicemen and service women all around the world who are keeping us safe.”

“We’re going to come out and join you and enjoy your company for a roll, a great Easter egg roll,” President Trump said. “And I don’t know if people are going to be successful, but I know a lot of people down there are going to be successful. I’ve seen those kids, and they’re highly, highly competitive.”

During the George W. Bush administration in 2008, current press secretary Sean Spicer dressed as the Easter Bunny during an annual White House egg roll. He joked about it on Twitter.
