Pope Francis will land Sept. 22 at Andrews Air Force Base to begin his first pontifical visit to the U.S., prompting many Americans — Catholics and others — to ask how they can nab tickets to any pope-related events, or at least get a glimpse of the pope.

Pope Francis will visit just three cities, Washington D.C., New York, and Philadelphia. Not including his landings and departures at various airports, he’ll have 17 official events during his six-day visit.

So how do you get into one of these coveted events? Here’s a guide to what’s possible and when.

While this event is not open to the public, crowds can wait outside the White House in hopes of seeing the pope arrive and leave from his visit with President Barack Obama.

Junipero Serra Canonization Mass at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception: Sept. 23
This event will have tickets that will be offered first to the Hispanic Catholic community, then to Catholic charities, seminarians, and finally D.C. Catholics. People interested in tickets will need to go through their local parishes.

Papal Address to Joint Meeting of Congress: Sept. 24
The actual address will be closed to the public, but it will be broadcast to the West Front of the Capitol where crowds will gather. After the address, Francis will come outside to greet the crowds. Anyone can enter a lottery to get tickets to that event by contacting your congressional representative.

Tickets will be available to members of the 9/11 community, including victims’ families, survivors, rescue and recovery workers, and first responders. A lottery will be held for a limited number of tickets.

This event will be open to the public, but only a limited number of tickets will be available. The tickets will be available mainly through parishes of the Archdiocese of New York. Other Catholic organizations throughout New York will also receive tickets to give to members.

This kick-off public event in Philadelphia will have ticketed and non-ticketed areas, and will be open to the public.
