Franklin Graham: Christians Should Boycott ‘Beast’

Increasingly troubling to the faithful that Disney is exposing our children to a progressive agenda

The evangelical leader Franklin Graham is challenging Christians to stand up for their beliefs and sit out Disney’s new remake of “Beauty and the Beast.”

“I hope Christians everywhere will say no to Disney,” Graham wrote in a Facebook post several days ago.

The movie’s director said the remake of the classic film, coming out March 17, includes an “exclusively gay moment” and will feature a gay character.

Graham shared his views in a Facebook post Thursday. “They’re trying to push the LGBT agenda into the hearts and minds of your children — watch out!” said Graham. He heads up the Billy Graham Evangelical Association and the international Christian relief organization Samaritan’s Purse. “Disney has the right to make their cartoons, it’s a free country,” he noted. “But as Christians we also have the right not to support their company.”

Graham said he met Walt Disney when he was a young boy. He believes the visionary entertainment leader would be “shocked” with the direction his company now has taken.

“Disney has aired a cartoon with same-sex couples kissing,” Graham noted. “It has also been announced that their new movie ‘Beauty and the Beast’ will feature a gay character in an attempt to normalize this lifestyle.”

While left-leaning people may applaud the new era of Disney — many Christians may find themselves at odds with the company and the products it puts out. Do Christian parents, who believe traditional marriage is between a man and a woman, really want their children watching a movie that promotes an LGBT agenda?

Matt Philbin, managing editor of the Media Research Center’s Culture section, wrote earlier this week that the movie is “regularly scheduled cultural suicide.”

“Disney’s support for homosexuality is very public, so we have to respond in public.”

“It sounds like the whole story has been recast according to liberal identity politics,” Philbin wrote on newsbusters.org

Tom Gilson with The Stream wrote Thursday, “Disney’s support for homosexuality is very public, so we have to respond in public.”

“[T]here’s no easy way for conservatives to object without looking ugly ourselves. They’ve put us in a corner,” Gilson wrote. “If we object, we lose now. If we don’t object, we lose later, when Disney plies gay princes and princesses upon us.”

“We need to learn to paint the picture better, to show the truly beautiful way, the way of strong and lasting marriages that unite in godly love to build the next generation,” Gilson added.

While conservative Christians react according to their firmly held beliefs, it remains to be seen whether any of this will make a difference at the box office.
