God speaks to all of us through the Scriptures.

As we celebrate our independence as a nation this Fourth of July — coming up quickly already, this coming Wednesday — let’s also remember the freedom found in believing in Jesus Christ.

Here are eight Bible verses (from the New International Version translation) to bring hope and direction to the July Fourth holiday for all of this year.

1.) Galatians 5:1. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

2.) Ephesians 3:12. “In Him and through faith in Him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.”

3.) Romans 6:22. “But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.”

4.) 1 Peter 2:12. “Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves.”

5.) Romans 8:1-4. “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so He condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

6.) John 8:31-32. “To the Jews who had believed Him, Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.'”

7.) 2 Timothy 1:7. “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.”

8.) James 1:25. “But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it — not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it — they will be blessed in what they do.”
