Raising a God-fearing, virtuous, and respectful child is a daunting task for most parents. There are thousands of different ideas, words of wisdom, and practical tips for what to do and what not to do.
But this father makes it simple, reciting a clear and concise pledge with his son every day.
Jenabu Williams and his 6-year-old son live in New Jersey. Like most parents, Williams wants his son to grow up with strong character, leadership skills, and Christian virtues.
On what was just an average morning for Williams and his son in the car before school, he videotaped their morning ritual and shared their pledge in this post on Facebook:
He probably never expected his video to go viral, but this post and the accompanying video have parents and kids talking.
In the video, Williams is shown introducing the daily pledge, while his son just takes off reciting it, proud of the words he is saying and taking them to heart.

The small boy still sits in a car seat, but his father is clearly instilling in him the values that will lead him toward a successful and virtuous life. The boy proclaims: “Today is going to be a good day. I thank God for waking me up today. I’m going to school so I can learn, go to college and be the leader that God created me to be.”
Another key part of this ritual is the repetition involved. This young boy is so focused on his words that they’re bound to be ingrained in his mind and written on his heart.
The endearing video also shows the sweet boy helped along by his father when he forgets a few lines here or there.

Another key portion of the child’s speech is the respect he has for his father as well as his creator. Williams is teaching his son the importance of these values that he wants instilled in his child. The boy says, “I’m extremely proud to be the next generation of Christian leaders.”
His other focus is education and the necessity of staying in school and going to college. He also wants to “ask questions when I don’t understand.”

This kind of positivity and goal-oriented speech is what all children need, and it’s unfortunate not every child can have a father like Jenabu Williams. If the next generation can be focused on these important aspects of character and virtue, they certainly will have a bright future.
Williams ends the video with a statement that exemplifies what it means to be a parent and a father: “Start you day off with something positive. Our kids can learn. It’s our job to teach them.”
