Imagine a day — just one day, a total of 24 hours — with no abortions.

In the United States alone, some 1,820 lives would be saved in a single day if that were to happen. That’s right: 1,820 babies would be given the opportunity to be born. Women would have the privilege of experiencing motherhood, of understanding the miracle of holding another human being, a precious human being, in their hands, cherishing that newborn and seeing their baby with their own eyes.

These children could be the living proof that choice is not always freedom — and that not every choice is right.

And they would very possibly and quite probably come to know that what they thought was “unwanted” was actually a child. Their child. They would learn a hungry cry versus a scared cry, the belly laughs that come with tickles, the sweet kisses and hugs of a drowsy toddler, a love like they’ve never experienced before.

These women would not have to convince themselves that they made the right decision, or try justifying their actions in anger or regret. They would look at their child and see nothing but promise and potential.

For women who could not fulfill the responsibility of motherhood, there would be families that had longed to adopt a baby and would welcome home a newborn with rejoicing over their answered prayers. These parents would know in their hearts that God biologically grew their child in another’s womb, with the intention that this little person would become their son or daughter.

The blessing these parents could give to their child would be a story of longing, desire, fulfillment — a choice for the biological mother to give the gift of adoption, and the choice of the parents to receive the gift to adopt.

Consider the amount of money right now that is going toward the killing of the innocent that would be saved in just one day. Abortions range in price depending on the duration of the pregnancy. Splitting the difference between a chemical abortion (pill) and a 24-week-surgical abortion, the cost for patients is about $1,940.

That’s $3,530,800 saved — sparing 1,820 lives. That $3,530,800 could go toward education, cancer research, or any number of charities in just one day. Think of what that kind of money could do and who it could help.

There would be physicians, nurses, office staff who could take a day to contemplate the repercussions of their work. They could pause for a moment to consider using their God-given talents to further life, rather than to end it.

Maybe they would think about the tiny toes and beating hearts that had been given a chance to go on living — and reconsider the possibility that “pro-choice” really means the loss of life.

Think about the women and men who would grow from those 1,820 babies. What kind of potential would they realize? Would they become doctors, teachers, carpenters, tech experts? Would they write the next great American novel or serve our country in the military? Whose lives would they impact?

There would be approximately 910 baby girls saved in one single day. That’s right: More than 900 baby girls would have the chance to grow up and fulfill all the promise that their fierce and determined hearts could dream. They could give life to the next generation, bringing forth their own children. They could be the living proof that choice is not always freedom — and that not every choice is right.

One single day without abortion could make the difference in changing the world.
