Demonstrators on Tuesday pushed through the office door of Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md., shown above), according to a series of tweets from Huffington Post senior politics reporter Jennifer Bendery.

Details on this story are still developing.

Bendery said the Capitol Police confirmed that protesters pushed in the door to the lawmaker’s office and assaulted the congressman, as The Daily Caller also reported.

Bendery said she was told this information by “a Cap Police officer,” as she noted in her tweet.

Fox News reporter Chad Pergram also took to Twitter to report that two female protesters “from the pro-cannabis legalization group the ‘Dank City Growers'” got into a “scuffle” with Rep. Andy Harris.

The reporters were also smoking marijuana, according to the police with whom Bendery spoke, it appears.

Harris was attempting to hold his door closed when demonstrators burst through it and began assaulting him.

Julia Nista, a spokeswoman for Harris, “confirmed there was a marijuana protest outside of his office Tuesday and said more information will be provided soon,” according to Delmara Now, which is part of the USA Today Network.

That publication also noted, “Activists from DC Marijuana Justice and the Maryland Marijuana Justice were frustrated by Harris’ statements at a recent town hall meeting on August 10 in Salisbury, where the congressman continued to reiterate his opposition to cannabis reform, according to a news release.”

Harris represents Maryland’s 1st Congressional District.

As Townhall also reported, “Video of the incident … simply shows two women trying to push their way in after Harris as he enters his office and slams the door shut. One of the women later tried to jam her foot in the door.”
