Top social media company CEOs should follow in Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s footsteps by testifying publicly before Congress on allegations of censorship of conservative viewpoints, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” Thursday.

“At the beginning of August, I sent a letter requesting for [Dorsey] to come to [the House Energy and Commerce Committee], and I want to give him the credit. He is showing up September 5,” McCarthy (pictured above) told Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

“He and I philosophically disagree, but we do agree on one thing: We believe in the First Amendment, but we also believe in transparency and accountability. He’s coming forward,” McCarthy said.

The House Majority Leader then declared that “other company CEOs need to come forward as well, because the stories that they are telling and blaming other people, and ‘It’s just an algorithm,’ are proving not to be true,” McCarthy added.

Conservative complaints over censorship allegations against Twitter, Google, Facebook and other companies have exploded in recent months, and President Donald Trump also wants to hold social media companies accountable for such bias.

“My administration is also standing up for the free speech rights of all Americans, social media giants,” Trump said Thursday at a Make America Great Again rally in Evansville, Indiana. “And I’ve made it clear that we, as a country, cannot tolerate political censorship, blacklisting, and rigged search results.”

“We will not let large corporations silence conservative voices,” Trump continued. “We are not going to let them control what we can and cannot see, read, and learn from.”

Trump targeted Google in particular on Twitter, writing on Tuesday, “Google search results for ‘Trump News’ shows only the viewing/reporting of Fake News Media. In other words, they have it RIGGED, for me & others, so that almost all stories & news is BAD. Fake CNN is prominent. Republican/Conservative & Fair Media is shut out. Illegal? 96% of…results on ‘Trump News’ are from National Left-Wing Media, very dangerous.”

“Google & others are suppressing voices of Conservatives and hiding information and news that is good. They are controlling what we can & cannot see. This is a very serious situation-will be addressed!” Trump continued.

McCarthy said that Congress “is going to look at everything from the perspective of how powerful” the social media giants “have become.”

“Social media today is the modern-day town hall. Sixty-seven percent of adults get their news from somewhere in social media,” McCarthy said, noting that he has had “many conversations with the president” about how “we have to stop this bias.”

Dorsey, at least, has agreed to appear before the energy and commerce panel September 5 to testify about the company’s algorithms and content moderation. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg testified twice before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation in April.

But Google CEO Sundar Pichai reportedly refused to attend a hearing before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, instead choosing to send Kent Walker, Google’s senior vice president for global affairs.
